Carden Dominion Elementary School, located in Redondo Beach was established in 1984. It follows the principles of the “Carden Method” founded by Mae Carden in 1934. The elementary school is for children aged from kindergarten through to sixth grade.
The Carden method or philosophy has a strong emphasis on phonics and comprehensive reading while still encouraging every child to expand on their own personality. This all takes place in an atmosphere of understanding. There is also an academic, recreational summer program as well as extended daycare available.
The school curriculum encompasses computers, phonics, music, art, physical education and language (Spanish) as well as mathematics. Academic excellence is held in very high regard and the mathematics course is taught by use of computational skills together with the conceptual characteristics of the Carden method.
The Carden Dominion School believes that every child is an individual and should be treated as such, and that if a child is given the correct opportunities to a sound academic program, learns good work ethics and has the will to achieve, then they will.
